The Pre-Employment/ Transitional Instruction Program introduces students to the world of work and personal responsibility. Talented instructors from Easterseals bring specialized training into West Alabama high schools. Programs include self-advocacy, social skills, financial literacy, driver’s permit, Work Smart, Virtual Reality and, Job Exploration Training
  • In Social Skills, students learn how to interact in today's world in a variety of real world settings they will all most likely encounter.
  • In Self-Advocacy/Assertiveness, students be come familiar with their rights in school, the workplace, housing, and public use spaces. Students also learn how to handle situations where those needs may not be being met.
  • In Financial Literacy, students learn about making money and spending money. Students are taught the basics of wages, budgeting, saving and spending.
  • In Driver's Permit, students participate in an intensive 5-session program which prepares them to pass their driver's permit test. Students are transported to the DMV, where they take their test, paid for by ESWA. If a student is able to pass the test on that day, ESWA will also pay for their permit card.
  • In Work Smart, students learn about the typical expectations in the workplace including safety policies, attendance, appearance, wages, and more.
  • Through our Virtual Reality and Virtual Job Shadowing programs, students have the opportunity to experience a wide array of career paths and tasks in a safe and engaging atmosphere. Many opportunities would not be available to the students in their communities, therefore it is important to bridge that gap by providing virtual experiences.
  • In the Job Exploration Training (JET) program, students receive classroom prep before real, paid, hands-on practice in local businesses. Students will work 25-hour work weeks for 4 weeks during the summer.
