Drivers Education Instructor


Easterseals West Alabama is seeking a patient, dependable Driver Education Instructor to teach individuals— including those with disabilities—the rules of the road and safe driving practices. This role combines classroom instruction, driving simulation, and behind-the-wheel training to help participants build confidence and independence.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach Alabama driving laws and safe vehicle operation in classroom, simulator, and in-car settings
  • Develop and maintain a driver education curriculum tailored to participant needs
  • Facilitate instruction in individual and small-group settings
  • Conduct intake assessments and respond to program-related emails
  • Maintain accurate student, attendance, and financial records
  • Ensure student vehicles are serviced as needed
  • Occasionally drive transportation routes to support the transportation department
  • Communicate clearly with staff, consumers, and families and perform other assigned duties
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; some college or degree preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and no moving violations in the past 5 years
  • Ability and willingness to work with individuals with disabilities
  • Strong communication, organizational, and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., sit for extended periods, and move throughout the office
  • Must pass a background check and read/write in English
